Back pain treatment that starts where it should: with a precise assessment.

Here's what 17 years of treating back pain in Leeds has taught us: if the assessment is wrong, the treatment can't work. Back pain is rarely caused where you feel it — which is why every treatment here begins with a structured assessment refined over thousands of sessions.

Why The Assessment Is Everything

A poor assessment makes any treatment ineffective.

Most back massage starts where the pain is. The problem: lower back pain usually originates in the hips, glutes or hamstrings. Upper back knots are typically driven by posture and shoulder mechanics. Treat the symptom and the pain returns in days. Find the cause first — and the treatment actually holds.

01

History & Lifestyle

How you work, sit, train, sleep and drive. Where the pain started, what makes it worse, what you've tried. Most causes reveal themselves here — if you ask the right questions.

02

Postural Analysis

How you stand and hold yourself under load. Pelvic tilt, shoulder position, head carriage — the structural patterns that load your back unevenly, hour after hour.

03

Movement & Range Testing

Specific movement tests that show which muscles are overworking, which are switched off, and where your range of motion is restricted — and crucially, why.

04

Hands-On Tissue Assessment

Palpation of the muscle tissue itself: knots, adhesions, tension patterns and trigger points — mapped against everything the first three steps revealed.

This protocol has been refined over 17 years and thousands of clients. It's the difference between a massage that feels nice for a weekend and a treatment that fixes the problem. The assessment tells us exactly where your treatment time should go — so you never pay for minutes spent guessing.

What We Treat

Back pain from real life — desks, driving, lifting.

Desk & office back pain

Eight hours of sitting shortens the hip flexors, switches off the glutes and rounds the upper spine. The result: lower back ache by mid-afternoon and knots between the shoulder blades. It's the single most common back pain we treat in Leeds city centre — and one of the most fixable.

Gym & training back pain

Deadlifts, squats and overhead work expose every weakness in your movement. Tight hamstrings pulling on the pelvis, an overworking lower back compensating for inactive glutes — the assessment finds the pattern, the treatment releases it, and you get advice on stopping it coming back.

Manual work & driving

Repetitive lifting, carrying loads and long hours behind the wheel build tension that accumulates over months. We treat tradespeople, drivers and military personnel whose backs simply work harder than most.

Symptoms we work with

  • Lower back pain and stiffness — constant or end-of-day
  • Upper back knots and tension between the shoulder blades
  • Back pain that radiates into the glutes or hips
  • Morning stiffness that takes an hour to loosen
  • Pain after training, lifting or long drives
  • Recurring "pulled back" episodes
  • Restricted movement — bending, twisting, reaching

When to see a doctor first

Massage is the right tool for muscular back pain. If your back pain follows a trauma, comes with numbness, tingling or weakness in the legs, or includes fever or unexplained weight loss — see a GP before booking. We'll tell you honestly at assessment if your problem needs a different specialist.

Common Questions

Back pain treatment in Leeds — FAQ

Why does the assessment matter so much for back pain?
Because back pain is rarely caused where you feel it. Pain in the lower back often originates from the hips, glutes or hamstrings; upper back knots are usually driven by posture and shoulder mechanics. If the assessment misses the real cause, the treatment targets the wrong tissue — you feel better for a day or two, then the pain returns. A precise assessment is what makes the treatment effective. Ours has been refined over 17 years.
How much does back pain treatment cost in Leeds?
Our initial assessment is £40, a 30-minute treatment is £45 and a 60-minute treatment is £80. The assessment is a one-off first step that identifies exactly what's causing your pain — every treatment after that is targeted, so no session time is wasted on guesswork.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients feel a clear reduction after the first treatment. A recent muscular issue may resolve in one or two sessions; long-standing postural problems may need a short course plus the take-home advice to stop it recurring. You'll get an honest answer after your assessment — never an open-ended treatment plan.
Is a back massage enough, or do I need physiotherapy?
For muscular back pain — by far the most common kind — targeted soft tissue treatment is exactly the right tool. If your assessment suggests something beyond muscle and fascia (nerve involvement, joint or disc problems), we'll tell you straight away and point you to the right specialist instead of selling you sessions that won't help.
Can I book a treatment without the assessment?
Every new back pain client starts with the assessment — it's not an upsell, it's the reason the treatment works. Returning clients whose assessment is already done can book straight into 30 or 60-minute treatments.
